Food’s Your Cat Shouldn’t Eat: Part 2
Round 2! Here are more foods that your cat shouldn’t eat. Unfortunately they like a lot of things they shouldn’t eat so its not always easy to deny them something they are begging for, but it is for their own good. Try to keep that in mind if you beginning to feel guilty for withholding certain foods.
Fat Trimmings and Bones: Fat trimmed from meat, whether cooked or uncooked, can cause pancreatitis in felines. The bones are an obvious choking hazard. They can also splinter and cause obstruction or laceration in thier digestive tracks.
Raw Eggs: Raw eggs can expose your cat to Salmonella or E. Coli. Secondly, Avidin, which is a enzyme found in raw eggs, interferes with the absorption of biotin. This can cause skin and coat problems for your cat.
Raw Meat and Fish: Raw meat and fish can contain bacteria which can lead to food poisoning. Also, and enzyme in raw fish destroys thiamine, which is an essential vitamin for your cat. It helps to maintain your cat’s neurological health. The lack of thiamine in your cat’s diet can lead to coma and convulsions.
Dog Food: I’m sure this one is shocking to you. Although it won’t hurt your cats to take a bite or two, dog food is in no way a substitute for cat food because dogs and cats have different dietary needs. Cat food contains more protein as well as certain vitamins and fatty acids. If you can eats mostly dog food, they will very likely be malnourished.
Liver: Liver, in small quantities is fine for cats. However eating too much can cause vitamin A toxicity which is very serious as it effects your cat’s bones. Symptoms include bone growths in the spine and elbows, osteoporosis, deformed bones and death.
Sugary Foods or Drinks: These types of foods and drinks lead to obesity, diabetes and dental problems.
Yeast Dough: Before bread is baked it rises. If your cat digests it, it will rise in their stomach and cause severe pain. It can also lead to alcohol poisoning since alcohol is produced when the yeast ferments the dough.
Your Medicine: Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen, often found in cold medicines as well as separately, can be deadly to your cat. Never give your cat any medication without checking with your veterinarian first.
