Long Haired Cats and Grooming
I personally have 2 long haired cats. I love them. Their fur is so soft and luxurious. They make the perfect snuggle buddies. However, with long haired cats comes long hair problems like matting of the hair and shedding. Here on some tips to help you and your cat both feel better about the situation.
1. If you can afford to take them to a professional groomer, do so. Call before you show up and make an appointment. Its important to do this for your schedule and to make sure that the particular groomer you have chosen caters to cats. Some only groom dogs.
2. If you cannot prefer a groomer or prefer to do the deed yourself, here are some tips to follow:
a. Brush your cat every day for at least 5 minutes to avoid tangles and matting of the hair. Daily brushing will help with your shedding problem and hairballs as well.
b. Buy a long toothed comb as a grooming tool. You might also want to invest in a smaller toothed comb to assist with flea removal if your cat goes outside.
You will need to comb your cat for 5 minutes a day, even if he/she goes to a professional groomer. Daily maintenance is in the cat’s best interest and yours.
